Samosata Round Lobby Coffee Table

Samosata is a wide, low, round coffee table drawn for hotel lobbies. A thick stone top in a warm grey-green with veining sits above the base. The base is a broken ring of four curved solid walnut segments, with narrow vertical gaps between them. The ring stands well inside the edge of the top on a slim recessed plinth, so the top reads as floating above the base. It takes its name from Samosata, the ancient city on the Euphrates; the old site lies near today's Samsat in Adıyaman, under the Atatürk Dam lake. We make it in our factory in Istanbul. The stone top is impregnated so a glass leaves no ring, and it cleans with daily wiping. The top looks the same from every side and its round edge has no corner, so guests seated around it and people walking past with suitcases meet nothing sharp. The vertical gaps between the four walnut segments give the base lightness and keep it from reading as a heavy block. Because the plinth is recessed, a mop or a broom reaches under the table easily. It sits in the centre of a circular lobby seating group, with armchairs and sofas arranged around it. Walnut tone, stone and diameter are chosen at order. We set the table height against the seat height of your lobby chairs.
