How much weight can bookcase shelves hold?
Shelf capacity depends on material and span. An 18 mm MDF shelf at 80 cm span holds roughly 20-25 kg, but books are heavy, about 30-40 kg per shelf meter. For spans over 90 cm, we use 25 mm thickness or metal-reinforced shelves. Solid oak shelves at the same dimension support 40+ kg.
